Editing and Proof-reading

I provide study support to students from all subjects and at all levels, including a comprehensive linguistic proofreading service. If you have English as a second language, are concerned about language issues within your academic writing or just simply don't know how to start writing that essay, I can help. Contact me at francesgrahl[at]yahoo[dot]uk with an outline of your project, including the name of the institution, the class and the submission deadline

[Please note this is not a plagiarism service and I don't write papers for people. I strongly advise you not to use a plagiarism service, not least because they tend to be shit.]

I've been doing this since 2010, and have edited a book on psychoanalysis (published by MIT), two PhD theses, numerous undergrad and Masters dissertations and several papers published in academic journals. I recently finished proofreading a play. I have also supported several international students in their applications to UK universities.

Here's a selection of references from satisfied customers:

"I have worked with many editors over the course of my professional life both as a psychoanalyst and an author, and I have to say that Frances Grahl is in a category of her own as an editor. She has the unique combination of mastery of the language, respect for the author's words and an intuitive sense of playing with texts.  It has been a wonderful experience working with Frances and I one-hundred per cent recommend her.” Dr Gohar Homayounpour, psychoanalyst and author
“Frances has provided me with English lessons and I have been very pleased with her methods of teaching and her detailed knowledge of both English and French grammar. Furthermore, her help on editing my essay was very professional and enjoyable. I would not hesitate to recommend her.” Nicolas, BA French Student
“My tutor knew what I was trying to say and helped me articulate it beautifully and with linguistic fireworks. She has studied at a high enough level herself to know what teachers are looking for and will not just correct your grammar but give useful feedback on your arguments and poke holes in your writing before your teachers get the chance to, giving you the opportunity to fix potential problems and massively improve your grade. Thanks for the first!” Sarah, BA English and French (First Class Honours)
“Frances taught me how to critically analyse. I remember having two lectures at university on critical analysis and coming away from them feeling baffled. Even books tended to overcomplicate this process and I was left feeling lost. Frances succinctly explained the basics whilst giving excellent examples. Her input was invaluable and without it I feel I would still be lying awake at night still trying to figure out this confusing process.” Robert, BSc Mental Health Nursing (First Class Honours)
“Frances Grahl is tutoring my son who is taking a BA degree in English. Frances is an exceptional tutor who not only strives for excellence but is also very caring and concerned for the student she is tutoring. I can thoroughly recommend her - you will be very pleased with the results she achieves for her students.” Julie

“Frances has to date helped me achieve a 2:1 in my English degree as well as a first in some of my modules. Without her help I doubt I could have achieved this on my own. I thoroughly recommend her as a tutor.” Niall
